India makes history at the Gourmand Awards as Godrej Food Trends Report wins global acclaim for the World’s Best Free Food Publication
Mumbai, 2nd July 2025: The Godrej Food Trends Report 2024 (GFTR) has been awarded ‘Best Free Publication in the World’ at the prestigious World Gourmand Awards, held during the Cascais World Food Summit in Portugal, marking a first-of-its-kind win for India at this globally inclusive publishing competition. Founded in 1995, with participation from over 200 countries, the Gourmand Awards are often regarded as the literary and cultural equivalent of the Michelin or James Beard honours for the food publishing world.
The accolade was announced on stage by Edouard Cointreau, President and Founder of the Gourmand Awards, at the Estoril Congress Centre. He shared:
“Warmest congratulations to Godrej for producing what stands as the most precise food report in the world. Since its inception in 2018, the Godrej Food Trends Report has evolved into a trusted and visionary platform that captures the pulse of the food industry with remarkable clarity. By drawing on the insights of over 2,000 experts and thought leaders across diverse sectors, the report has become an indispensable resource—fostering meaningful dialogue, anticipating key shifts, and shaping the future of food in India and beyond. A truly exceptional contribution to global food discourse.”
The Godrej Food Trends Report 2024, conceptualized by Godrej Vikhroli Cucina, the culinary owned media property of Godrej Industries Group, is crafted in collaboration with top chefs, food bloggers, nutritionists, and entrepreneurs, shaping narratives around India’s evolving food and beverage landscape. Each year, the report offers research-backed insights into consumption trends and culinary innovations shaping how India eats. Reflecting on the win, Tanya Dubash, Executive Director & Chief Brand Officer, Godrej Industries Group, shared:
“Over the past seven years, this report has evolved into more than just a forecast. It has become a cultural lens, one that captures how India eats, feels, and evolves through food. This recognition from the Gourmand Awards is a proud moment not just for us, but for everyone who contributes to this collective effort. Today GFTR has become a handbook for the industry, it is a strategic framework through which new products, menus, and food narratives are being shaped. From spotlighting key trends such as the mainstreaming of Korean cuisine in India to the resurgence of millets, the report has consistently mirrored the shifts in our food culture with clarity and depth. As we look ahead, future editions of the report will explore even wider culinary horizons, from everyday Indian kitchens to emerging domains like pet food. We are excited to keep expanding the conversation around what food means, and where it’s headed.”
The 2024 edition of the report was launched, under the theme of ‘Provenance’, exploring the deep cultural and geographical roots that shape Indian cuisine.
Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal, Curating Editor of the report and Managing Director of Perfect Bite Consulting, added:
“This recognition is deeply personal for me and the incredible team behind the Godrej Food Trends Report. Each edition is the result of months of collaboration with some of India’s most insightful chefs, experts, and storytellers, shaped by our travels, conversations, and endless hours of research. It’s a journey rooted in culture and curiosity, and to see it honoured on a global stage is not just a proud moment for us, but a celebration of India’s growing presence in the global food dialogue.”
This win marks a significant milestone for Indian culinary thought leadership on the global stage, joining the ranks of recent achievements such as Chef Vijay Kumar’s James Beard Award for Semma in New York and a new Michelin Star for Tresind, celebrating the evolving influence of Indian food globally.
The next global edition of the Gourmand Awards will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, later this year, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the awards and continuing to honour the best of food culture around the world. As this recognition marks a proud moment for India, it reinforces the value of research-led food discourse and storytelling. The best part? An award-winning report like The Godrej Food Trends Report 2024, including the newly launched 2025 edition, is freely accessible to food enthusiasts and culinary professionals across the globe. Readers can explore and download the report via the Vikhroli Cucina platform, bringing a slice of India’s evolving food narrative to their fingertips.
